004. NEWS

There is a DVD I like to watch from time to time called "Einstein's Big Idea". In it they mention that when he (Einstein) published his 1905 papers outlining the Earth shattering, universe altering, Theory of Relativity the world responded with a resounding... nothing. Life continued as normal and it took a while before the first letters started rolling in asking questions.

Humbly, I'm not comparing this comic series with the Theory of Relativity but I can empathize with what it might of felt like to a degree. Here he had this theory that would alter the course of humanity forever (though he probably wasn't aware of that fact at the time) and there was absolutely no response. Sheepishly I admit that when this comic started a year ago there was no doubt in my mind that it would be an overnight success. I passed out advertisements at Mega-Con the day the site hit the web and I believed that people would see the art and be wooed into my world, demanding more pages and action figures faster than I could produce them. I'm not sure where that over-confident thinking came from. Maybe because I knew how much work it took just to get to that point and I naively thought that I had already done the lion's share. Easy street was assuredly close at hand. But as the year went on it began to sink in that this was really only the beginning. Research told me that it normally took 5-8 years for anything to take off be it recording artist, web comic or stand up comedian.

Needless to say this past year has taught me a lot. When I first started I had expected to be able to keep up with a weekly update schedule and I probably could have done that if I hadn't realized that the art needed to evolve. Originally I was trying to see what I could get away with not showing and still keep the story interesting but more and more I personally wanted to see the world grow. So now the weekly schedule has become an "As-Often-As-I-Can" schedule as I'm striving to make each page the best it can be and I hope you'll put up with the wait in between.

Anyway. Here we are. One year later. A little older. A little wiser. And I wanted to say thank you all very very much for keeping up with the series. Here's to another year and many more to come. Enjoy the newest page and let me know what you guys think.

Sincerely,

Sean
